About The Center for Surgical Weight Loss at Lake Norman

The Center for Surgical Weight Loss at Lake Norman is staffed with a multi-disciplinary team of weight loss specialists. It helps potential candidates determine if weight loss surgery is right for them. The center also supports those who have undergone weight loss surgery, helping them achieve their health and weight goals.

By locating surgical and support services together in the same office, we're able to provide patients with the comprehensive, multi-disciplinary treatment they need to achieve the maximum benefits of weight loss surgery. Our medical and allied health professionals consult with one another to develop a highly individualized treatment plan for each patient. Our patients have all their needs met in one place and their surgeon, nurse, counselor and dietitian work together as a real treatment team. The team follows each patient's progress in tandem at follow-up visits. As a team, we consult with each other and the patient about their weight loss, emotional health, eating habits and nutritional needs, and physical well being. Our patients don't have to make multiple appointments, or go to several different offices scattered across the Charlotte region.

Because the center is located close to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, our director is closely involved during a patient's stay in the hospital. She works closely with nursing staff, providing training and assistance to ensure our weight loss surgery patients receive the care and respect they deserve.

The center is designed to support the whole person - mind, body and spirit - throughout the emotional ups and downs of extreme weight loss. Through support groups and an active, allied healthcare team, our program addresses the emotional, spiritual and physical well-being of each patient. The mind, body and spirit are essential components in bariatric surgery programs as they collectively impact up to 80 percent of a patient's post-operative success.

In the initial phase of the program, patients undergo extensive pre-surgical medical, diagnostic, psychological and nutritional evaluations. After surgery, patients have medical follow-ups at scheduled intervals, all within the same office. The program also offers post-surgery support groups for the various stages of recovery.
