Health fairs are organized to create an awareness of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and to inform the public about services provided by LNRMC. A variety of health fairs are held each year to fit the needs of specific populations. A typical health fair offers one or more of the following:
- Blood glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure screenings
- Body Mass Index (BMI) evaluations and information about healthy diets and nutrition
- New mother sample packets, newborn and pregnancy information and class schedules
- First-aid information and safety awareness information
- Pulse oximetry testing (a measure of the amount of oxygen in the blood) and pulmonary function testing (a measure of lung capacity)
- Volunteer recruitment
- Information on other LNRMC departments, such as Home Health, Rehabilitation, The Surgical Center, and Radiology Physician-Assisted Community Events
Community Outreach also assists local physicians in providing services to the community. For example:
Athletic Physicals: Free athletic physicals to area school children, grades K-12, by participating LNRMC physicians
Health Screenings: Complimentary health screenings for various diseases such as skin cancer, diabetes, and prostate cancer. Screenings are advertised well in advance, and an appointment is usually required.
Blood Drives: Held in conjunction with The American Red Cross, blood drives at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center are typically held every 8-9 weeks. |
