LNRMC - Critical Care and Telemetry Nursing Unit

Critical Care

Patients may be brought to the Critical Care Unit, often as a follow-up to surgery, if their situation requires close monitoring. While in critical care, patients may be on a heart monitor and/or a breathing machine. Specially trained critical care nurses care for patients 24 hours a day and work closely with physicians and nutritionists to deliver individualized personal treatment plans.

Visiting Hours

Visitors are limited to immediate family members only, and all visitors must be at least 12 years of age unless approved by the medical and nursing staff. We also request that visitors be kept to two at a time. Visiting hours are:

  • 9:00 - 9:30 a.m.
  • 1:00 - 1:30 p.m.
  • 5:00 - 5:30 p.m.
  • 8:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Telemetry

When a critical care patient’s situation improves, in many instances, the patient can be transferred to telemetry. While breathing patterns and heart functions are still closely monitored, patients have more freedom to move around and receive visitors. In telemetry, patients are closely supervised to check for any adverse effects from medications, and diagnostic tests are run regularly to monitor the progress of recovery. When a patient’s health situation is considered stable, that patient is then usually moved from the unit into a regular hospital room (in the Med/Surg unit) to complete recovery. Some patients may be discharged to home from the Telemetry Unit.
