Support Groups | American Cancer Society Programs

Lake Norman Regional Medical Center is pleased to offer education and wellness programs, as well as support groups, for its patients and as a service to the community. Following is a listing of all programs, including days, times, and prices where applicable. Please refer to the phone numbers provided for additional information.

Classes Offered:

Breastfeeding Class
Breastfeeding class is offered on a monthly basis on a Monday night. The class is taught by the lactation staff and includes basic information on how to get started and how to manage nursing during the first few weeks of life. Cost is $30.
 
Child Education Refresher
The refresher course is offered quarterly on a Saturday morning. This class is for parents who have already taken a childbirth education class with a previous pregnancy and who wish to “brush up” on their skills and review the labor process. A tour of the maternity center is also included. Cost is $35.
 
Childbirth Education
Childbirth education classes are taught on a monthly basis on Tuesday or Thursday nights and last 4 weeks. The weekday series includes infant care on the last night. Weekend classes are also offered every month. Class material includes information about the labor process, medical interventions, hospital tour, as well as relaxation techniques, positioning for labor and breathing techniques. We recommend having completed the class by 32-36 weeks gestation.  Cost is $75. For weekend classes, cost is $60.
 
Infant Care
Infant Care is offered as part of the weekday childbirth class. It is also available as a single class if needed. The class includes basic infant care skills, growth and development. Cost is $20.
 
Infant/Child CPR
Infant/Child CPR is offered every month on a Monday evening and Saturday morning. Course material includes CPR for children ages’ birth to 8, management of a choking victim and home and car seat safety. Cost is $15 (ind). $20 per couple
 
Safe Sitter
Safe sitter is offered on a monthly basis to 11-14 year olds. This one-day class covers basic childcare skills, child choking/injury management, behavior management, how to call for help, safety for the sitter & business skills. Cost is $40.
 
Sibling Class
Sibling classes are offered monthly on a Saturday morning (2-5 year olds) & quarterly on Thursday evening (6-10 year olds). This class helps your child better adjust to their upcoming role. Each child will receive a Big Brother/Big Sister T-shirt and a sibling tour. We recommend attending this class close to the time of delivery. Cost is $15.
 
Welcome to Pregnancy
"Welcome to Pregnancy" is offered on an every-other-month basis and includes information about how to begin with a healthy start in the first trimester and what to expect during pregnancy. There is no cost for this class.
