Anterior Total Hip Arthroplasty

Free Seminar Offered at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center Presented by C. Van Sikes, III, MD, Orthopedic Surgeon

Mooresville, NC (May 2, 2014) — Lake Norman Regional Medical Center is presenting a free seminar on Anterior Total Hip Arthroplasty by Orthopedic Surgeon, C. Van Sikes, III, MD, on Tuesday May 27th, at 6 pm, in the hospital’s Community Rooms.

Dr. Sikes is one of the first surgeons in the area to offer total hip replacement through an anterior approach that allows access to the hip between muscles and does not cut through the substance of the muscles surrounding hip.  By preserving the structures behind the hip, patients treated with this approach do not routinely require posterior hip precautions that limit hip range of motion in the early post-operative period.  The anterior approach alternative to traditional hip replacement surgery involves a smaller incision, the potential for less pain, faster recovery time, no detaching of muscles or tendons for improved mobility, and decreased patient hospital stays.
