Couple Weds at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center So Bride’s Mother Could Attend

Emily Hart Higgs and Nathan Higgs celebrate with their families at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center’s chapel where they got married.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (November 6, 2012) – Emily Hart and Nathan Higgs were married Thursday, October 18, in the Chapel at Lake Norman Regional Medical (LNRMC). The couple celebrated their nuptials with their parents, Danielle and Michael Higgs, and Debbi and Gary Hart, as well as the bride’s grandmother, Bernice Laugel. The date was special to the couple, as it was the eighth anniversary of their first date. While the couple was excited to have family present, they were even more blessed to have the bride’s mother, Debbi Hart, in attendance. Debbi Hart was a patient at LNRMC at the time of the nuptials and was able to take part in her daughter’s special day because it was held at the hospital.

As for the wedding cake, Robert Assante, Director of the Nutrition Services at Lake Norman Regional, surprised the couple and their families with a custom wedding cake. To add to the surprise, Assante provided light refreshments immediately after the ceremony in an attempt to create a reception for the newlyweds.

The wedding was officiated by Rev. Lawrence Ownbey.

The hospital’s Chapel is always open and available to patients and their families to provide them a quiet place for personal prayer, meditation or reflection, and it is rarely a prime wedding venue. However, on this occasion it provided the perfect setting for this unique situation to allow both families to not only celebrate, but more importantly participate in the joining of their two families.
