Town Recognizes National Healthcare Decision Day

Julie Millirons receives proclamation of National Healthcare
Decision Day from Mac Herring on behalf of Lake Norman
Regional Medical Center.

MOORESVILLE, NC (April 26, 2013) – During the April 15th Mooresville Town Board meeting, Commissioner and Mayor Pro Tem, Mac Herring, read a proclamation declaring April 16th as Healthcare Decision Day. Healthcare Decision Day is designed to raise public awareness of the need to plan ahead for health care decisions related to end of life care and medical decision-making whenever patients are unable to speak for themselves.

Julie Millirons, RN, BSN, Director of Case Management, of Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, received the proclamation from Herring, a Hospice nurse, on behalf of Social Workers and Case Managers throughout the Mooresville community whose task it is to ensure all patients receive the health care options they have chosen.

“The most difficult situations I encounter as a Hospice nurse are those where the patient is unable to express his or her wishes and family is struggling with the choices before them without ever having been told by the patient their own wishes,” added Herring. “This family conversation is a very important thing.”
