Kenneth Wood, MD

Meet Dr. Wood

Dr. Kenneth E. Wood has over 30 years of experience in orthopedic spine surgery. He finished medical school at The University of Florida in 1970 and then after serving his internship at Duke University, spent 5 more years at Duke in orthopedics and orthopedic spine surgery. During that time, he spent 6 months in Pennsylvania at The Erie Shriner’s Hospital for intensive scoliosis and deformity work. After completing his Duke training, he served 2 years in The US Navy at The Naval Regional Medical Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

In 1978, he began practice in Charlotte, NC where in 1990, he helped found The Charlotte Spine Center. While at The Charlotte Spine Center, Dr. Wood was an active teacher in the spine surgery fellowship training program and was president of his group practice. While there, he served a year as president of The Mecklenburg County Medical Society and was a “founding father” and past president of The North Carolina Spine Society. He has authored and co-authored articles in spine journals and textbook chapters and has lectured at medical conferences and instructional courses.

In 2000, Dr. Wood moved to Lake Norman in Mooresville, NC and has practiced just north of Charlotte in the region from Lake Norman to Statesville, NC. Since 2008, he has limited his practice to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, a beautiful, modern, exquisitely equipped facility. He and Dr. Ben Garrido perform their surgery at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center. The hospital has a new orthopedic/spine center, and provides a high resolution MRI scanner, 64-slice CT scanner and a 3-D surgical navigation guidance system known as the O-arm/stealth system, one of three in the state. Having these remarkable innovations available, greatly increase, the safety and predictability of our spine surgery.

Dr. Wood practices both adult and pediatric orthopedic spine surgery. His areas of expertise include lumbar and cervical degenerative conditions including disc and stenotic disorders, deformity including scoliosis and kyphosis. He continues to see patients from a large surrounding area including Western North Carolina, Eastern North Carolina, Charlotte, Winston Salem, West Virginia, Virginia, Tennessee, South Carolina and Ohio.

Dr. Wood resides in Mooresville at Lake Norman and enjoys reading, sailing, spending time with his family and snow skiing.
