Delivers essential medical services and broad impact to the larger community
MOORESVILLE, NC – Over the course of 2023, Lake Norman Regional Medical Center played a vital role helping people get well and live healthier at more than 257,000 patient encounters across its hospital and network of Lake Norman Medical Group physician clinics and other outpatient sites of care.
At more than 28,000 emergency department visits each year, lifesaving medically necessary care is provided for all patients regardless of their ability to pay. Members of the community who cannot fully afford their medical care are provided deep discounts or even charity care and the hospital has resources to help them secure medications and medical support devices. Last year, Lake Norman Regional Medical Center provided more than $39.5 million in charity and uncompensated care for the community’s most vulnerable.
“The essential role Lake Norman Regional Medical Center plays in our community each day, around the clock, is one that helps people become well and live healthier lives,” said Alec Grabowski, network chief executive officer. Our committed team of clinicians and caregivers uses their knowledge and compassion to serve the patients who depend on us—regardless of holidays or inclement weather---they’re here for our patients.”
Other support for social determinants of health in the community includes financial donations for charitable organizations such as HealthReach Community Clinic and Fifth Street Ministries, and acts of service such as the annual Jars of Love drive collecting peanut and other nut butters for the FeedNC food bank.
Lake Norman Regional Medical Center strives for excellence in the clinical service programs it offers to support the health needs of the community, including a cardiovascular program with cardiac and emergent STEMI (ST-elevated myocardial infarction mainly affecting the heart’s lower chambers) services and cardiac rehabilitation services. Additionally, investments in robotic surgical equipment allow surgeons to perform a broader range of minimally invasive surgical procedures that may result in shorter hospital stays and quicker recovery time. To strengthen cardiology and surgical services, there are ongoing efforts to recruit advanced general surgeons, including those with advanced training in bariatrics and robotics.
Civic resources and services are supported by Lake Norman Regional Medical Center tax payments of more than $7.5 million and the payroll of more than $64.5 million ripples across the local economy as employees buy goods and services. Workforce development remains a priority and the hospital maintains strong relationships with local nursing programs, serving as a clinical rotation site with area two-year and four-year colleges and providing hiring opportunities.
Grabowski continued, “The vital care we provide is only one part of the broad impact we have that adds up to more than $111.5 million last year. We recognize that our services are essential to this community, and we are committed to doing all we can to provide quality health care and make Mooresville and the greater Charlotte area a healthier, better community for all.”
